Palladium Plating
Palladium—an excellent hard “white” finish that is increasingly being utilized as a replacement for nickel undercoatings in the jewelry and watch industry. Often mistaken for “white gold”, palladium finishes are characterized by high tarnish resistance and can be used as an alternative to rhodium when costs are a prime consideration.
Palladium Data Sheet
From the Greek goddess of wisdom (Pallas) was discovered in 1803 by William Wollaston. As a member of the platinum family palladium is used extensively in the jewelry industry as a premium white metal for diamond settings. It is also used as an alloy metal for medical instruments. Palladium is obtained primarily from the mining of platinum, nickel and copper ores. It remains bright and is resistant to oxidation under normal conditions but will forms oxides when exposed to sulfur contaminated environments. | |
